UNeLearn Inter-agency Group Coordination Meeting

The UNeLearn group is an example of interagency collaboration and knowledge sharing. Composed of representatives of various UN agencies, the group was created in December 2008 during the ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN conference as a consequence of the session on “Technology-Supported Learning in the United Nations System”, organised by UNEP in collaboration with the UN Secretariat, UNDP, UNU, FAO and other UN Agencies. Sixteen UN agencies agreed to establish “UNeLearn” - a UN-wide network on technology-supported learning - to share information and expertise, as well as to collaborate on the sustained deployment of e-learning. UNeLearn was born with the ambitious goal of serving as catalyst for enhanced interagency collaboration in this field and has set taking stock of existing e-learning resources as its first goal.

For this purpose, the members of the group have established a collaborative space online. It is hosted by the UNSSC: http://communities.unssc.org/UNeLearn. It allows to foster knowledge sharing and greater synergies among UN system organisations and their staff in the development of e-learning initiatives. In June 2009, the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) invited the group members to another a face-to-face meeting in Turin, Italy. As a first stock-taking exercise, an information base was set up during the On-line Knowledge Fair on e-learning in the UN system.

These successful initiatives were followed by an online meeting which took place in October, organised by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in order to share both knowledge and experience on the choice of the appropriate Learning Management System. At ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN we will continue to our efforts to enhance knowledge sharing among UN agencies in the field of e-learning. Not only will we evaluate the progress made regarding the identified goals, we will also explore further networking opportunities and knowledge sharing for this group, as well as consolidate the group structure and organisation.

Participation is by invitation only.
