Are you a HoCo? I think you are. A HoCo is not a dirty word. It is short for 'homo competens', and that is no insult. It is Latin for 'competent person'. If you are a HoCo, or want to be one, or want to create an environment in which HoCos can thrive, this workshop is for you.
So let’s talk about the characteristics of competence and about the times we live in. Let’s talk about achieving and maintaining a high level of competence. Let’s talk about the guidelines and tools a HoCo needs to flourish in life, at work and in society in general. Let’s talk about shaping an optimum environment for the workers of the network age.
As optional preparation for the workshop, participants will be given access to a survey, a web walk and a game.
In the first part of the workshop, we will concentrate on the characteristics of competence, and on what evidence can back that claim. Who has ownership over the talent of knowledge professionals? What is the role of competence in a company's value chain? How has the network age changed competence building? What do people regard as strong or weak evidence of your talent?
In the second part of the workshop, we take the view of the 'competence architect' and come up with practical tips on how to support HoCos in our organisations rather than standing in their way. We will work on cases for selling, hiring and leading.
Participants will receive the book ‘Homo Competens – Let’s Talk About Competent People in the Network Age’.
If the question "What does it take to build competence these days, and what does it take to prove competence?" interests you, you belong to the target group. The target group is HR and learning professionals, primarily in corporations, as well as people in institutions responsible for shaping people's competence.
