Professional career
Bas Cordewener [1957] has held several positions at the University of Groningen (RUG) since 1984, working mainly as a consultant and project manager in the Computing Center. Bas was vice director of the Expert Center for Computer Based Teaching and Learning (ECCOO) of the RUG from 1996 - 1998.
In September 1998 Bas started working for the SURF foundation as Assistant Manager for the Platform ICT and Education. His main concerns are the national SURF innovation program for making better use of IT in higher education, the dissemination and facilities program to support innovation activities and setting up international exchanges and collaboration. Bas is a member of the Board of the European Knowledge Media Association (EKMA) and a member of the Board of the European Universities Information Systems organization (EUNIS) on behalf of SURF. Bas has a Bachelors degree in Marketing (Hanzehogeschool Groningen, 1996)
The Organization
SURF is the higher education and research partnership organisation for network services and information and communications technology (ICT). The SURF organisation consists of the SURF Foundation and its two Limited Liability Companies: SURFnet and SURFservices. The members of the SURF organization are all universities for professional education and the large research institutes in the Netherlands.
The Mission of SURF is to exploit and improve a common advanced ICT infrastructure that will enable higher education institutes to better realise their own ambitions and improve the quality of learning, teaching and research.
