Heidi Heikkil

Heidi Heikkilä teaches Finnish language and literature and Finnish as a second language in Sotunki Distance Learning Centre, Sotunki Upper Secondary School and Tikkurila Upper Secondary School. Last year she joined a pioneering Second Life project at Sotunki Distance Learning Centre. Sotunki was the first school in Finland to try using Second Life on upper secondary school level. The project’s main goals were to find new approaches to teaching that would allow students to learn by experiencing and participating and to increase interaction among Distance Centre’s students who study mainly via internet. Since the project started, she has been working on creating new ways of teaching the history of literature and also teaching other teachers to use Second Life in their work.
