Dr Duk Hoon Kwak, a scholar majoring in computer science, is currently the Chair of ’the Society of e-Learning’ as well as the Chair of ‘Smart Learning Forum’ in Korea. He is one of the most influential experts in the area of e-Learning and has written dozens of books and journals in the field of e-Learning and distance education. He is a professor at KNOU (Korea National Open University) and President&CEO at EBS(Korea Educational Broadcasting System), which is a Public TV network dedicated to education. Dr Kwak is Vice President of the Korean Broadcasters Association. Before entering broadcasting scene, he worked as President of KERIS (Korea Education & Research Information Service), and is Chair of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 Korea which is leading on the development of international standards of e-Learning. Dr Kwak plays a dynamic and crucial role in Korean education as a top-level advisor to the Korean government related to education policies.
As one of the most outstanding figures in education in Korea, Dr Kwak has conducted extensive research related to distance learning. His focus has been on various aspects and the usage of e-Learning in contemporary education. His academic work is well-balanced with his status as head of several prominent educational institutes in Korea.
Dr Kwak has been awarded various education awards and honors for his innovative research and work. He has received Contribution Awards from academic entities such as the Korea Society of IT Services, the Korea Information Processing Society, and the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers. He has also been given honors by government agencies like Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and Ministry of Information & Communication. With his great achievement, Dr Kwak has received the Presidential Award for Contribution to Informatization.
