Gary Motteram

Dr Gary Motteram is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Manchester. He is the course director for the MA in Educational Technology and TESOL a degree he set up and started running in the 1980s and which went online in the 1990s. This degree has remained at the cutting edge of the uses of technology to support teacher education throughout this time. Gary also supervises research students in the field of technology and teacher education and of technology supported language learning. In the last few years he has also run a number of projects: he was the project leader for the Manchester-led Developing e-learning for Teachers (DefT) which was part of the broader HEFCE funded eChina-UK project; a partner in the EC funded LANCELOT project, which explored the uses of video conferencing in language teacher education; a principal investigator on the Cambridge University Press funded project exploring the uses of technology by adult language teachers; and is currently project co-ordinator of the EC funded AVALON project, this project is concerned with language learning and teacher education in MUVEs. He speaks regularly at conferences as well as producing articles and book chapters in the field.
