Historically, universities have relied on the brand, visibility and location of their campuses for the acquisition and transmission of knowledge. In the transformational digital age, universities now want to reach out beyond the security of their own walls, to leverage their legacies and power, and to export learning, rather than simply import students. Universities want to change, to flex their curriculum, to stay relevant and to strive constantly for excellent learning experiences. Many universities know that, even with the best will in the world, many of these aspirations are beyond their ability to deliver. Are partnerships the answer to enabling greater innovation, finding new ways to achieve diversification and meeting growing global demands from students - by sharing expertise, risks, rewards and success? Come and decide for yourself in this insightful panel session, which will offer glimpses of partnerships and plans already in train to meet these challenges and opportunities.
Oliver Janoschka
Managing Director, Hochschulforum Digitalisierung, Stifterverband, Germany
Oliver Janoschka has served as managing director of the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD) since its inception in 2014. Before founding HFD, Janoschka worked in the field of higher education in various European Member States for more than seven years. He has a proven track record of facilitating international policy projects, serving for example as director of projects for the European Association on Lifelong Learning in Higher Education (EUCEN) in Barcelona and Brussels and as lecturer and project coordinator for the Bosch Foundation in the Western Balkans. He holds a master’s degree in educational management, sociology and psychology from the University of Hamburg.

Professor Gilly Salmon has been a learning innovator for more than 30 years and is one of the world’s leading thinkers in digital and blended learning.
She researches and publishes widely on the themes of innovation and change in Higher Education and the exploitation of new technologies of all kinds in the service of learning.
She is internationally renowned for her significant contributions to education futures, including research, innovation, programme design, teaching methods and the use of new technologies. She recently joined Online Education Services (OES) in the UK.
Previously, she was at the University of Liverpool Management School, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Education Innovation at the University of Western Australia, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Learning Transformations at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia; Previously she was Professor of E-learning and Learning Technologies, and Head of the Beyond Distance Research Alliance and the Media Zoo, at the University of Leicester in the UK, and prior to that with the UK Open University Business School.

Sanna Simola
Senior Lecturer, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland
Sanna Simola (M.A.) works at Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) as a Senior Lecturer of German and Swedish Language and Communication. In addition, she has participated in several development projects related to languages, cultures and online teaching. Simola is a certified Eurolta for Online Teaching Master Trainer, and trains teachers in online teaching skills. Simola currently works at TUAS in the Future Learning Design (FLD) team, where the aim is to develop teaching and learning methods to meet the requirements of the 21st Century Skills and future needs of working life. She has coordinated a national portal Summersemester.fi, which offered online courses for all students of universities of applied sciences (UAS) in Finland. Currently she is responsible for national coordination of a joint portal of all UAS in Finland, which offers year-round online studies at CampusOnline.fi.
