Collaborating to Streamline Quality Course Creation

Whether it’s a team working on combining technology and pedagogy to create a learning ecosystem; peer-to-peer training for teachers in a virtual learning environment; or educators involved in a peer-based development process for online courses, the old adage “two heads are better than one” hasn’t lost its potency. Under discussion in this Panel will be integrating pedagogical need and technology tools to support teaching; examples of practices for teachers undergoing the transition from brick-and-mortar classrooms to virtual environments; and strategies to grow the number of courses that can be used as a turnkey solution when enrolment increases - and a lot more.

Teached in both private and public schools. Part-time Educational Technology Strategist for 8 years and full-time for the last 2 years.
Presently employed at Nettskolen Vestfold. Nettskolen Vestfold is a government-owned initiative in the county of Vestfold, Southern Norway. We provide a technological solution which combines virtual real-time lessons with flipped classroom didactics in the form of data driven e-learning platforms. We provide courses in foreign languages. This will provide students with more choice and differentiated learning. We also provide courses in mathematics at various levels in order to provide high achieving students a fastlane track through high school as well as examfocused courses. We believe we have expertise in virtual teaching in real-time, training teachers to become engaging online teachers and make them experts at using data driven knowledge drawn from e-learning platforms. We believe our proposal will fit this year’s conference theme of Learning to Love Learning, as the presentation demonstrates how to develop teachers’ professional competence. The research presented will shed light on development practices for virtual teachers to enhance their teaching and thus love their job even more

Online Course Peer Development: An Approach Towards Quality, Scalability and Student Success
Dr. Carlos Morales is founding President of TCC Connect Campus, the largest and fastest growing of the six campuses that are part of Tarrant County College District, which delivers eLearning and Weekend College programs to non-traditional students. He is responsible for the educational endeavors of more than 20,000 students served by 500+ faculty.
Dr. Morales is an instructional technology scholar, a visionary and dynamic leader with experience at undergraduate, graduate, public and private institutions of higher education and an educator, presenter, and author. His experience spans more than 20 years as a faculty member of Biology and Science Education in the classroom and online. He has held progressive administrative roles as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Ana G. Méndez University System-Virtual Campus; Executive Director of Academic Technologies at Lock Haven University and Instructional Designer at New Jersey City University.
Carlos is the author of internationally peer-reviewed academic articles, book chapters and has conducted more than 70 refereed conference presentations. Throughout his career, Dr. Morales has used technology to improve teaching and learning. He is enthusiastic about incorporating technology advancements that engage students in the learning process and that help faculty to enhance teaching methods. He has accomplished this through the development of instructional technology training sessions, designing and implementing technology-enriched classrooms and the development of fully online college degrees. He is a sought out expert and leader in higher education innovation; experienced creating converged learning environments (online, hybrid and web-assisted) and as well as adult and accelerated learning opportunities. Dr. Morales serves on a number of boards at the regional and national level in the United States and is actively engaged as a peer reviewer on editorial boards for academic journals in the United States, Puerto Rico, Latin America and the European Union.
Dr. Morales graduated from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biology and Science Education, and received his doctorate, from Capella University in Instructional Design for Online Learning. He was a Frye Fellow in 2009 and in 2012, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities named him a Millennium Leadership Fellow.

Antonia is part of the EOCCS Management Team at EFMD Global Network and has worked on the design, implementation and organisation of EFMD Global Network Online Course Certification as part of a small international virtual team.
Previously, Antonia studied at the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz as well as the University of Glasgow and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Social Anthropology and English studies in 2009. She has worked for the German Federal Foreign Office in two German embassies in Namibia (2008) and Ireland (2009-2011). In 2013, she completed an advanced training to be a certified Quality Management Representative and has applied these skills in Higher Education since then. She was Assurance of Learning Manager at the Dean’s Office of the Business School of the University of Mannheim (2013-2017).
