Leading the Move to Blended Learning through Experience of Online Delivery of High Enrollment Courses at the eCampus, Maseno University

Date Monday, Nov 30  Time   –    Room

Universities in Africa’s Higher Education Institutions see advances in technologies for learning as a way of facing unprecedented change: Large classes, more diverse students, demands from government and employers for more accountability for workforce ready graduates, and coping with an ever changing technological landscape. Maseno University was able to draw from its experience with adapted flexible and blended learning approaches for high enrollment common courses already offered to students on the existing LMS. But as they embarked on this shift, several questions needed answers. How to preserve essential regular student-teacher interaction? How to continue with synchronous activity dependent course in asynchronous environment? How to handle the practical based courses on the online platform? How to acquire the low cost technology for the shift? The eCampus was able to leverage on experiences with large common courses to build the needed capacity building for staff and advise the university on technological requirements.
