Digitalisation of the Berlin University of the Arts - under Constraints of 1st wave of SARS-COV-2 outbreak

Date Wednesday, Dec 2  Time   –    Room

Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) is the largest public art school University in Europe integrating, within one institutional framework, college of architecture, media and design with college of music, college of fine arts and college of performing arts. Due to its diversified and multidisciplinary nature, switch to on-line learning caused by spring outbreak of SARS-COV-2 posed a particular challenge to teachers, students and administration alike. In our talk, we shall provide a brief report concerning UdK‘s transition from mindset dominated by corporate platforms (Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Zoom) to more sustainable, locally hosted, self-administered open-source systems for on-line learning (BigBlueButton), collaborative presentation HTML5 creation and knowledge management (Kastalia KMS) and asynchronous communication (Matrix protocol).
