Merja Laamanen (M.Sc. (Econ) in information system science and MA in research of art) works at the University of Jyväskylä digital services where she is a Digital Transformation Lead. She is an alumna of University of Jyväskylä and has 20 years of work experience in developing e-learning models, training and support modules, and new digital tools for Higher Education. She is a PhD student in education technology and her research interests are usability, accessibility and new learning technologies.

At Wageningen University&Research Ulrike has lead several innovation programmes with a huge impact on the organization of education: Open&Online Education, Flexibilization and now Professional Education. She leads as well a National Programme for Flexibilization, which is part of the Dutch Acceleration Plan for Educational Innovation with ICT. The Dutch pilot for introducing Microcredentials in HE has been initiated in this context. Being an innovator in heart and mind, she follows Wayne Gretzky famous saying: 'skate where the puck is going, not where it's been'.

MIGUEL RODRÍGUEZ ARTACHO (Málaga 1968) is a computer scientist and university professor at the UNED University (Spain), where he investigates the improvement of ICT in education and coordinates a postgraduate program in this line. He is also the founder and head of the technical secretariat of the CTN71 / SC36 committee on standardization of educational technologies at AENOR. Since 2018 he has a diploma in higher defense studies from CESEDEN in the XXXVIII National Defense Course.

Accelerating Educational Innovation with ICT, The Dutch National Plan, Ulrike Wild
Higher education institutions in The Netherlands are collaborating in the Acceleration Plan Educational Innovation with ICT. The plan recognises that digitalisation offers great opportunities and that it can contribute to the quality of education. In the programme we join forces in order to take substantial steps in the field of digitalisation. We will give a short overview of the development and results of the Acceleration Plan, particularly our response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Outcomes:
- In this presentation you will learn how the Dutch Acceleration Plan works, how it is funded and how the governance is organised.
- You will learn about the different projects we delivered and are currently working on, such as a national system of microcredentials, and a national framework for the use of educational data
- You will learn about how we responded to the Covid-19 crisis in the Netherlands.
Institutional Digital Transformation through Adaptive and Personalised Learning, Afif Rustom
The global pandemic has proven more than ever that digital transformation is core for institutional success. VitalSource has spent 20 years in the field working on the baby steps to transform an institution from physical textbooks to digital textbooks. We have invested years of research to provide solutions that revolutionise the ways student learn, instructors teach, and institutions monitor performance.
We will focus in this presentation on using technology in class whether it is face to face or remote and the benefits of adaptive and personalised learning accompanied with impactful insights.

Developing Teaching Professionals’ Digital Competences in European HE, in Times of Corona, Merja Laamanen
Digitalisation and changes in education in general are a challenge to both students and teachers in higher education.
They bring new demands for teachers’ competences too, as 21st century skills are not only required of students but also of teaching professionals. The Covid-19 pandemic brought another challenge in this respect, as trainings for teachers needed to take place online. This presentation shares lessons learnt from the common training course on teachers’ digital competences which was developed in the FORTHEM project for seven partner universities.
Outcomes:
- How to develop teachers' digital competences, which does not only mean technical but also pedagogical skills, in an online training.
- The experiences of the training on digital competences for the alliance teachers from the organizers’ as well as the participants’ point of view.
