DescriptionGaming, including multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs), is still an emerging field for learning delivery and support. Unlearning is often needed, given the connections that have been made between gaming and either “time wasting” or gratuitous violence. This is the first of two linked sessions and features a number of presentations exploring these issues.This lab introduces a ready-to-use portal and service broker platform including experiment applications for the use in different levels of education and is an ideal platform for lifelong learning, especially usable in corporate learning. Please sign up for this session beforehand on a first-come first-served basis.Educational institutions increasingly search for new and effective ways of working and learning with mixed media. The speakers in this session present a range of mixed media approaches and initiatives for institutional learning environments. This will be followed by a debate about the actual value of technology for learning.This Learnshop presents key challenges in the growing field of benchmarking e-learning. Participants are expected to work in groups to formulate criteria for areas topical in this conference and interesting to them: these are likely to include Web 2.0, institutional costs, student time on task and provable learning gains.This session discusses challenges faced by the MENA region with regard to e-learning and ICT, and also highlights important achievements. Join this session to discuss and identify new ways in which prosperous and sustainable developments through ICT can be brought to this region.

This Learnshop draws on the presenter’s experience with supporting institutional benchmarking in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and in EU projects.
