ABOUT BITS 21|fjs e.V.

BITS 21 is a training institution incorporated in the Association for Youth and Social Work (German: Förderverein für Jugend und Sozialarbeit fjs e.V.) headquartered in Berlin, Germany. BITS 21 focuses on media educational science and offers trainings targeted at educators working with children and adolescents in schools, kindergartens, and youth clubs. Trainings are realised on a regional as well as national level, where BITS 21 takes advantage of its special know-how and experiences in the area of education, information technology, and new media applications.

The focal points of the distinct trainings are the promotion of changing learning environments by using new media applications and the development of new strategies with regard to the concept of lifelong learning. Thus, besides offering a professional networking platform, BITS 21 encourages and assists educational institutions in developing new concepts and introducing innovative learning settings.

BITS 21 currently offers three extra-occupational training courses focusing on media education, parent education, and the monitoring of learning processes: Special Media Education Profile (German: Fachprofil Medienbildung), Media and Parent Education (German: Medienerziehung und Elternbildung), Special Profile for the Monitoring of Learning Processes in cooperation with HELLIWOOD media & education (German: Fachprofil Lernbegleitung)

The implementation of digital media is immanent to all of these training courses. By applying the concept of Blended Learning the participants are offered to experience new media applications and devices as a means of learning and can therefore discuss the potential of an implementation of digital media in schools, kindergartens, and youth clubs.

Due to its innovative and formative extra-occupational training courses and concepts BITS 21 (fjs e.V.) was awarded with the Innovation Price for Advanced Training by the German Institute for Vocational Education in 2008.
